Australia's Energy Crisis

Australia is falling into an energy crisis.

Borne of an idiotic insistence that wind and solar can provide baseload energy needs for the nation, successive governments have thrown hundreds of billions of dollars in subsidies at these white elephants.

The result has been a disaster. Australia now has some of the highest cost energy on the planet. Our grid system is unstable and the financial cost has seen our greatest economic advantage – cheap and abundant power – disappear.

I helps explain why so many of our manufacturing industries have disappeared too.

This has all been done to save the planet from the non-pollutant and essential gas Carbon Dioxide, which the unscientific and plain stupid claim is destroying the planet.

Bizarrely, the chief advocates for the horrors of climate change, who demand emissions free energy, refuse to countenance the only carbon dioxide free base load power available in the world – nuclear energy.

Tonight’s talking points memo highlights some inconvenient facts for the anti-nuclear disciples.

In the USA, the average nuclear energy plant generates an annual $40 million in wages and salaries and employs between 400 and 700 workers. They also purchase an average of $470 million per year in local goods and services. The US nuclear industry adds a total of $60 billion to their country’s GDP.

Now Ask yourself, how many workers does it take to operate a wind or solar farm?

Every year, nuclear-generated electricity saves our atmosphere from more than 547.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise come from fossil fuels. That’s the same as taking 117 million passenger vehicles off the road, which is more than every passenger vehicle currently on the road in the United States.

Nuclear energy is the only emission-free source of electricity that can be widely expanded and relied upon to meet minimum electric demands. To provide the same amount of carbon dioxide -free electricity as produced by a typical 1000 MW nuclear facility, a solar farm would have a footprint of over 100km2

Modern reactors are safer, more versatile and mere efficient than ever before. The two worst nuclear disasters in history were Chernobyl and Fukishima. Chernobyl involved a soviet era design without the inherent safety features of western light water reactor designs while Fukishima, is acknowledged as a man-made accident.

There are 440Nuclear power reactors in 31 countries worldwide. An additional 220 research reactors operate in 50 countries. Nuclear currently provides around 10% of the worlds energy and 18% of electricity in OECD countries. Modern plants are safer, more flexible and more efficient than ever before.

Australia has the world’s largest recoverable uranium reserves – an estimated one third of the world total - which we export for use across the world but, thanks to deep green appeasement, we prohibit the use of here.

For those who say they don’t want a nuclear reactor in their backyard, make sure you don’t move to Sydney.

Australia’s only nuclear reactor operates in the leafy suburb of Lucas Heights….surrounded by happy residents living in neighbouring suburbs.
