This budget will be notable for how the government responds to the things it can control or whether they'll succumb to the gilded lily of treasury officials.
Tonight's Federal Budget bottom line is anyone's guess. That includes the Treasury boffins putting it together.
Their recent track record of forecasting has been simply woeful. We've been promised a budget surplus is 'just around the corner' since Wayne Swan was baking the books.
The coalition even went as far as to print 'back in the black' budget mugs. They were swiftly withdrawn from sale when the Covid spending spree began.
To be fair, Covid did change everything for the government.
